Amidst Uncertain Markets – Groupon is Planning Again to go Public

0

Groupon is going to start again the I.P.O. procedure.  It had postponed this process of offering of shares earlier this month because of irregularity and uncertainty prevailing in the market.  It has planned again to go public either in late October or early November

Earlier the decision to be listed in stock exchange was postponed due to the instability in stocks during past weeks.  But the announcement of going public in October or in early November shows company’s determination and confidence.

Also a number of organizations have delayed their decision to invest in IPOs.  That includes International Automotive Components Group, a manufacturer of car parts.  Fluctuating markets is delaying companies hope to get stable pricing of their shares.  This year, companies who offered their IPOs are still waiting for a miracle to happen as ongoing economic slowdown and fluctuation in the markets is keeping away the investors from any fresh transactions.  This year, ninety seven (97) companies have gone public in U.S. and 64 per cent of these companies are trading on less than their offered price.

In less than three years, Groupon became the favorite today’s generation internet company.  Its IPO offering is the most sought after.  Some investors are skeptical about Groupons offerings and its ability to sustain in the long run.

But Groupon has reportedly shown good results in second quarter, it achieved 36 per cent gain in its revenue that is $878 million..

What is an I.P.O.?

I.P.O. is the acronym of Initial Public Offering.  That means the first selling of shares by a company to the public. When an IPO is in process by a company, it will get itself listed on a stock exchange, and shares begin to trade soon.  The use of IPOs is usually done by a young company in order to gain essential market capital.  Generally with IPOs risk is involved, but through IPOs there are great chances for major gains. The money gained through newly issued shares reaches directly to the company.  The company does not need to repay the capital amount to investors.  The attainment of quick capital gain attracts the companies to go public.
