The celebrities are no longer the top searched commodities on net,  in 2010 the year had witnessed several important and path breaking news items which have actually topped the search engine search results. This year with was all about BP Oil Spill and World Cup Soccer in South Africa.

World’s second Search engine giant Yahoo has posted its results saying that this year it was all events no celebrities when it came to web search engine.

This is the first time in the history of web search engine that a major news event has hit the gold with more than ten million searches. After a decade of search engine market and a cluster of competing companies this is the first time that news has won the game over the much hyped movie stars.

Vera Chan one of the search engine trend analysts and senior editors said that internet has grown and it has finally matured in 2010 with the major events and news winning the battle from the over hyped movie celebs.

People’s anxiety about the environmental effect of a oil spill and the impact on the sea and aquatic life actually drove them to search about it more and more on internet, she added. On the other hand the world cup curiosity was actually triggered by many contributory factors like the anthem Waka Waka and the Paul the octopus predicting the fortunes of the nations playing in quarters, semis and finals.

After BP Oil Spill and World Cup it was the usual list of celebs flocking their ways in the countdown, leading the way was Pop sensation Miley Cyrus.
